Precautions After Hair Transplant
- Please take prescribed medications for 7 days after surgery for pain control and wound healing. Although the scalp tends to be less prone to inflammation due to good blood circulation, it is recommended to take these medications as a precaution.
- If you experience itching on your scalp after hair transplant surgery, it is best to lightly tap the area with your fingertips. Please DO NOT scratch your wound with your nails. If folliculitis or any other issues occur, do not squeeze or touch the area; visit the clinic immediately.
- For about 3 months after surgery, you must absolutely refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol, as well as avoid strenuous exercises and excessive impacts that could stress the transplanted hair. Be careful not to cause the hair to fall out.
- On the surgery day, you may experience some mild bleeding from the donor area (back of the head), so it is advisable to sleep with a towel underneath you. The gauze taping applied to the donor area can be removed after 24 hours, once it is sufficiently soaked.
- Transplanted hair may shed from 2 weeks to 1 month after surgery (sometimes up to 3 months depending on the individual), and may sometimes shed along with scabs. This is a natural occurrence and no cause for concern.
- For patients who chose to do FUT method of surgery, doctor will remove the stitches from the donor area on Day 14~16 after surgery.
- You may wash your hair 24 hours after the surgery. Please do not rub the recipient area for a month, bubble shampoo is recommended. You may wash your donor area regularly after the surgery.
- After shampooing, you may dry your hair with hair dryer, you may gently tap your hair with towel, but until 1 month post-surgery, use a gentle airflow and dry cautiously.
- The gauze provided on the day of surgery is intended to prevent bleeding and oozing. Until you return home post-surgery, if bleeding has not stopped, use a clean hand to gently press gauze (multiple layers) to the transplant site to stop the bleeding. (Be careful not to touch the transplant site directly.) Avoid any strong pressure or rubbing actions as they may hinder the healing process. Please use the antibiotic spray on the recipient area for up to 7 days. First 3 days is critical for the best survival rate, so please use the spray periodically to prevent the area from becoming too dry or too wet. Dispose of any remaining spray after a week.
- From 1 month after surgery, you may exercise, perm and dye, go to sauna, steam room, or use other hair products.
- After surgery on any part of the donor, recipient, or vertex areas, numbness may occur lasting from as short as 3 months to as long as 12 months, with sensations gradually returning over time.
- It is possible to experience itching or a tingling sensation in the donor or recipient area for up to a month after surgery.
Post Operative care will include:
- – Week 2: Smart Lux (and stitches removal if incision was made)
- – Week 4: Scalp Scaling + Smart Lux
- – Month 3: Growth Factor Injection
- – Month 6: Growth Factor Injection
- Follow-up appointments are typically scheduled for the 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year after the surgery.
